A broken barrier this week caused a massive buildup of garbage on the Drina that has threatened Bosnia’s Visegrad dam.

Officials say that between 6,000 and 8,000 cubic meters of waste are pulled out of the river each year. At the Visegrad dam, efforts began to clear away the clogging garbage and to avoid potential damage to the power system.

Two Aquarius Systems’ Aquatic Trash Skimmer boats were deployed to remove floating materials from the Ganga River at Sangam, India. Plastic bags, bottles, cans, food packets and coconuts among other items are dumped in the river by humans.

The Trash Hunters removed about 20 tons of water materials without four hours. The plan is to put the machines into service for 8 – 10 hours each day so that the cleaning of the Ganga could be done effectively.

The river debris skimmer boats collect floating waste through conveyors, stores it on board and then travels to the shore to unload the waste which is then transported to the dumping site. The skimmer boats are fitted with paddle wheels that allow it to travel in the water and help to aerate the water by churning it up.

The past two months have been productive for the Chautauqua Lake Association in New York, and the work is just getting started. July is expected to be even more productive with the expansion to a third site to efficiently maintain Chautauqua Lake’s ecology.

To date this season, the Lakewood and Long Point crews have removed 183 truck loads of aquatic vegetation from Chautauqua Lake, totaling more than 3 million pounds. Last week alone the CLA crews removed 500,00 pounds of vegetation from the lake.

Not only does the Chautauqua Lake Association use aquatic plant harvesters to cut and remove the lake weeds, but they also remove floating debris, shoreline and post-storm clean-up, plus scientific monitoring to meet lake management needs.
