Former firefighter and current aquatic plant harvester operator, Michael “Mike” Ordyna’s instincts took over when he witnessed a woman slip on her boat dock and fall into Lake Buel in Massachusetts.

Ordyna quickly jumped into the woman, rescued the woman and safety swam them both to safety then rushed to call 911. After EMTs and policed arrived on the scene, Ordyna, who is new to tending the lake, swam back to the harvester and resumed his work.

“It’s interesting because it was a lousy day on the lake, and hardly anyone was around,” Ordyna said. “I just happened to be in the right place at the right time.” Ordyna was awarded a plaque and given an honorable written citation from the town for his heroic actions.
