Wisconsin DNR Recycling Excellence Award Winner

D&D Products, Inc is a second-generation manufacturing company with a 30,000 square foot factory located in the Village of North Prairie.

The Aquarius Systems Division manufactures surface water management equipment that is used to clean and restore waterways.  Most commonly seen are the aquatic plant harvesters that cut and removes weed from many Wisconsin lakes, but our equipment is in 47 states and has been exported to 50 countries.

The Recycling Excellence Awards celebrate outstanding recycling efforts, innovation and performance throughout Wisconsin. The DNR provides awards to communities, businesses, organizations and local governments for their overall program, projects and initiatives, innovation or special events.

Congratulations to D&D Products, North Prairie, for their effort to reduce and recycle in their office and manufacturing operations.

Being green and taking care of the environment is not always free or inexpensive.  As a company we are doing our part to make a difference by recycling our waste and procuring disposal services that also recycle as well as finding ways to conserve water and energy.

Recycling is a Company Wide Initiative

Each office/cubicle as well as common areas such as the break room and conference rooms have both a trash and a recycling bin.

D&D Products, Inc. has a monthly service with Shred-It to dispose of papers that contain confidential or proprietary information; where they shred and then recycle the paper.  In this photo, we added boxes of financial documents that we were no longer required to retain to the Shred-It pile.  We did retain the file boxes however to be used for our 2021 year end documents.

Documents that are necessary to print are double sided and if they do not contain confidential information, will be used as scratch paper when they are no longer needed.

All ink cartridges, from our small desktop printers to the work center and plotter, are recycled.  They are either returned to the manufacturer, shipped to the supplier or sometimes dropped off at the local school to raise money by recycling the cartridges.

To encourage employees to reduce the use of plastic water bottles and disposable cups, D&D has several water coolers throughout the building and provided employees with reusable travel mugs.  Even visitors receive a mug.

The D&D offices are located on two levels, each with a separate heat and a/c unit and programmable thermostats.

Offices, restrooms, break rooms, parts room and conference rooms all feature Philips Energy Advantage T8 lamps.

All outdated or broken electronics are stored on site until the bin is full, then D&D calls in an electronics and disposal service.

Tool batteries, mouse batteries and old equipment batteries are saved and collected by Batteries Plus Bulbs.

Scrap lumber is saved to create packing crates and used for trucking purposes as needed.

Used pallets are returned to vendors as requested. Nonreturnable pallets are left outside for anyone to take.

Infrared heaters are placed in various work zones to provide spot heating in areas where employees are stationed.

A foot operated multi-use hand washing station is installed in the shop allowing for multiple employees to wash at the same time in an effort to conserve water.

Incoming shipping boxes and packing material is saved and reused to ship parts to D&D customers.

Even in the shop, items are divided into cardboard, paper and trash and then put in the appropriate bins for GFL Environmental (previously Advanced Disposal).

All metal scraps and electrical wire is separated and recycled.

Steel oil drums are returned to our vendor.

Waste oil is saved and collected by Crystal Clean to be transformed into a new product.

Manufacturing can be a dirty business and rather than purchasing paper shop towels, D&D Products utilizes Aramark’s towel service to provide us shop rags.

D&D knows that even the little things can make a big impact.  Such as low-flow faucets and reusing water from the dehumidifier to water our plants and outdoor flowers.
