North Prairie, WI; January, 2023 — Aquarius Systems, a leader in mobile marine debris capture equipment, won an EPA Grant to design and build a new in-water floating debris collection and removal system.
Aquarius Systems, the world’s leader in mobile marine trash skimmers, designs and manufactures the Trash Hunter, which intercepts and captures garbage and later conveys it to shore for proper disposal. They have a 60 year history of mobile barge and boat-based systems to cut aquatic vegetation and remove trash from navigable waterways.
The EPA grant will be used to design a new stationary trash removal system with the primary goal to reduce the number of material handling steps as compared to other methods of trash extraction. This innovative design has a new gathering mechanism to capture debris from the water and immediately transfer it to land, with no need to re-handle the trash, or risk introducing it back into the water.
Every year millions of pounds of garbage finds its way into waterways, streams, rivers, lakes, and reservoirs. This marine debris affects water quality, endangers plants and animals, and pollutes the water we enjoy for tourism, recreation, and natural beauty.
This new modular machine will require no manpower and is simple to operate and maintain. Additionally the new machine furthers the mission of improving the environment by functioning on electric and solar power.
